Texture Tutorial

In order to produce a realistic map, you will need to make your structures fit into the setting. For example, a structure in a snowy setting doesn't look right unless it's covered with snow. Because of this, several textures were included in this pack designed to help you achieve this. This tutorial will explain to you how to make your structures fit into their settings.

In this tutorial, the "RedRock" terrain texture and a simple crate will be used as examples:

The crate has two textures: the side (left) and the top (right).

Of course, the top will accumulate more snow/sand/dirt/etc. than the sides of the box. Because of this, there are two textures for each material. Since we are using the "RedRock" terrain, we will be using the "RedRockSandSide.psd" and "RedRockSandTop.psd" (If you are using Paint Shop Pro, they will be in the ".psp" format).

Simply create a new layer and place the texture on top of your custom texture. The resulting image should look similar to this:

Finally, apply the textures to your model.

You can use the same techniques for all of the other environments. Here's an example of a crate in a snowy setting:

Note: If you want a texture to have more snow/sand/etc. on your object, simply add another layer of the sand/snow/dirt. The texture on the left only has one layer of the sand texture and the one on the right has three layers.
